The 39-year-old captain was flying the Boeing 737 from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
When the co-pilot allegedly stabbed him inside the cockpit.
The aircraft then plunged more than 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds.
Despite suffering serious injuries and losing a significant amount of blood,
Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door.

Captain Smit Machchhar was not always destined to become a pilot.
But on September 30, the Indian Flydubai captain found himself fighting to save the lives of everyone aboard Flight FZ1073 after he was allegedly attacked by his co-pilot.
But who is Captain Smit Machchhar?
Machchhar has more than 13 years of commercial flying experience.
He began his career with SpiceJet in 2011, later became a senior Boeing 737 commander and joined Flydubai as a direct-entry captain in 2022.
Before becoming a pilot, Machchhar briefly studied textile engineering before attending an aviation seminar that changed the course of his career. He eventually travelled to New Zealand for commercial pilot training.
